Today KTS detectives learned about DNA and DNA fingerprinting!
DNA fingerprinting is a laboratory technique that can establish a link between a suspect and a biological sample (saliva, blood, etc.) found at a crime scene. The very first step to analyzing DNA is to extract it from somebody's cells.
The kids extracted their own DNA from cheek cells floating in their saliva. They were brave, especially when they rinsed their mouths with salty water.
This technique will prove invaluable to solve the mystery of the disappearing (and reappearing) van Gogh!
Next will be analyzing real fingerprint profiles, like this one!
Stay tuned!
